Sheba (aka The Traveling Gnome)
March 9, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
I just wanted to give you an update on Sheba. As you can see from the pictures, she is doing pretty well. In early December, she finished her chemotherapy. After tests were done, it was determined that the cancer had spread to her kidneys and bladder. They told us that they didn't think she would make it to Christmas. On December 27th we moved to Florida. I found a vet here who not only uses conventional vet medicine, but also uses alternate treatments, including Chinese herbals. Well here it is, March 9th and Sheba is doing well. She is in no pain and has a good appetite (as good as it ever was!), walking 4-7 miles a day (her favorite thing), and still loving to play with her squeaky toys. The only medical issue is that she has to piddle more often then usual. Her bladder feels full even when it's only partially full. Of course, if she becomes ill or in pain, we won't prolong her life. I would love it if she made it to her 13th birthday this summer. I would never let her suffer. She is such a sweetheart!!! Thanks again for matching us...

Betsy

Chai (fka Rocket)
March 8, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
Thought I'd let you know that Chai (formerly Rocket) is doing GREAT! We named him Chai because he looks like Black tea with specks of spices in his coat. We love him. Went on a big hike over the weekend and actually managed to tucker him out a bit. He gets a long morning and night time walk and has been on 3 runs with me. We're working on getting him not to chase cars (we think he thinks the white mini vans are huge sheep!). Loves his chew toys and rawhides (and slippers!) Take care,

Rebecca, Michael, Gabe and Emma

Lulu (fka Squeak)
March 6, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
LuLu aka Squeak is adjusting very well. She has had her first vet visit and she has gotten a clean bill of health. MaryAnn says that she cannot thank your shelter enough for taking such good care of LuLu before she came to live with me. LuLu is very playfull and has adjusted well to living with me. I also cannot thank you enough for allowing my mother in law to adopt LuLu aka Squeak. They make a perfect couple together. I can say that my mother in law spoils her rotten as she should. I have not seen my mother in law this happy in years. Thank you again for everything that you have done.

Amy T.

Miss Olivette
March 4, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
Miss Olivette is just a joy to have around. She gets along well with her new siblings. She has been into work with me and just "Smiles" at everyone. They are always asking me about my smiling dog. She has a great personality that is loved by all. I feel like God sent me a little angel. I know she misses her first mom, she and I have conservations about her first mommy still watching over her and how much she loved her. She must have been a very special lady, because Miss Olivette could not be any sweeter. I love her so much, she will have a long happy life with my critters and me... Thank You so much!

Gracie
March 3, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
Gracie is such a bundle of energy. She loves her big yard to run and get her toys. She is very good with my Granddaughters, if you ask her "where are the girls" she goes right to them. She listens well, she likes to walk the land unleashed and follows me and commands. She also does well on leash. She is a terrific alarm clock, she got used to me and David's schedule, and believe me she does not change it even for the weekends. She had only one accident in the house, and that was the first week, now she is a pro, she barks lightly to let us know she needs to go out. Gracie is getting used to the kitties, she knows who is the boss (the elder Fila) but she still tries to play with him. Gracie is a wonderful addition to our family, we love her so much. I have recommended your shelter to quite a few people and two that I know of have gone to you and adopted kitties. I am so glad that we found you, and Gracie! Thanks again.

Lisa I.

Dan
March 1, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
Just wanted to let you know that Dan was a good car rider for Jeff on the way home to RI. He gave lots of kisses to the back of Jeff's head along the way. We have found out that he must never have done stairs and since we have a raised ranch it has been a little challenging getting him to go up and down the stairs but Jeff is working with him with treats and today he made it up them on his own. A small victory but we are happy to see that he is adjusting to our home. He slept in his crate last night and I left the door open to it today and he goes in and out of it on his own. He is eating fine and still checking out our house room by room. I am sure it is overwhelming for him and we are trying to let him just "adjust" to being here. Jeff has taken him for walks already a few times and he is working with him on the leash. Tomorrow he goes to the groomer for a bath so he will smell beautiful for us. We love him already and are so happy to have him here in our home. Thank you again for all your help. We appreciate everything all of you at the shelter did for us and Dan.

Sue and Jeff K.

Mojo
February 26, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
Just a note to say hello and let you know that Mojo is still having a great time in the Reiff pack. He walks off leash in the Conservation Area where that is allowed, and I am always quite proud of him when meeting and greeting other dogs and humans. At home, he has somehow managed to migrate from his sleeping chair onto the bed! I remember when he didn't even want to be petted, except by Joe! I'm sending you his "Smile Pose" -- I actually use this picture to start a lecture on "Assumptions" when I teach research analysis in my courses. When I first click on his picture there is always a bit of a gasp! He makes an impact! It is a perfect lead-in to work toward noticing assumption and coming to a task with an open and curious mind. So now -- Mojo goes to college! I will never forget what you have done for all of us. Thank you!

Marianne, John and Charlie

Maxwell
February 25, 2010
Maxwell is doing GREAT!! We had a large setback over the last yr and a half. He blew out both of his acls. He was barely walking on his hind legs. We were told there were 2 different type of surgeries he could have and that my vet recommended the TPLO (much more expensive but a much higher success rate). Well we did it, and are soooo glad we did. He is such a great dog and putting him down for a "fixable" ailment was not something we could do. So after 2 knee surgeries 6 weeks apart and a new born baby (human kind) we are doing fabulous one year later! And we also still keep in touch with 'Sunday' Maggie Mae whom is Maxwells sister from that litter of puppies 7 years ago. Keep up your great work.....and thanks again for my wonderful Maxwell! Thanks.

Lynn B.

Cali
February 22, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
Just wanted you to know that Cali is doing great! We got her a post and some catnip mice that she looooves. We have caught her chasing her tail a few times, it's so cute! She loves running from the living room into the kitchen and skittering across the floor, haha. She will follow us around and leap into our arms to get pats. Cali is very active, always jumping and running around the house. But unlike many cats she actually seems to like sleeping at night! She sleeps at the foot of our bed. Oh and Cali is crazy about string! Thank you soooo much, we love our Cali !!

Sancho Panza
(fka Benji)
February 21, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
In September of 2004, I was living in western Massachusetts and was looking to adopt a dog. While surfing Petfinder one night, one mangy little guy caught my eye, and I immediately emailed your shelter to find out if "Benji" was still available. He was, and I drove out to visit as soon as I could. I grew up with dogs, but hadn't yet taken care of a dog "all on my own," so this was a big step for me. Benji had been found as a stray, so you had very little information about him or his background, but I took him for a walk when I got to the shelter and fell in love with him immediately. The vet guessed that he was about 3 yrs old, which would make him about 8 or 8.5 now, but my husband and I think he may be a little older than that, based on the fact that we started noticing some signs of aging a few years ago, and they have gotten worse recently. He still has a spring in his step and loves to go for a good sprint around the yard every evening, but his evident arthritis and how quickly he tires remind us that he won't be a puppy forever. "Benji" (now Sancho Panza) is just the best dog in the whole world (and I am not biased, of course!), and every day I tell him how much I love him and how lucky I was to find him. I just wanted to write your organization a note of thanks for all the good work you do, and for allowing Sancho to enter my life. I don't know if anyone there remembers "Benji", but I am attaching a recent photo. Thank you! Emily K.

Patches (fka Suzie Q)
February 18, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
Suzie (aka Patches) is doing very well. She has calmed down considerably and we have learned (pretty much) what works and doesn't work with her. She is a joy and love my 3 grandchildren. We acquired a cat (Ritzi) renamed Tiger, from the shelter at Christmas. That has been a bit of a challenge but they now seem to be adjusting to each other. Suzie loves to play and really tries to get Tiger to play also - they are working out their differences and daily improvement on that. Tiger, too, loves the grandchildren and is very lovey with them - not so much with Suzie!!

Seamus (fka Fudge)
February 16, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
Thanks for checking in. Seamus AKA Fudge is doing great. He has settled in nicely. He has been a great addition to our home, and the kids are loving him. He does very well with both kids and spends the majority of his time looking for love and attention from everyone. He loves his new crate and toys, as well as all his new doggie bandanas that we change every couple of days. We have a house at the Cape, and we spent the weeekend down there. He spent alot of time getting use to the house and his favorite part was chasing seagulls on the beach. He loved to run on the beach. We can't wait to bring him there this summer when he will be able to play in the water. Thanks for picking us, we really love Seamus, he is truly part of the Moriarty family already.

David
February 14, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
just wanted to send you guys some pics of David. its been just over a year now, that hes been part of the Kiertianis Family. He is doing well, and i dont know what i would do with out him. Davids buddy, Daisha whom ive had for 9 years just passed away the beg. of Nov. She battled lung cancer, and a large tumor on her lungs, which pushed up into her heart. They were the best of buds, i would get woken up at about 12am of them wrestling around, or chasing each other. It was great. But david is living the life, i dont think i can sit on the couch for more than 2 seconds without him being on my lap, he is my shadow, and always by my side, every step i take, he is a true companion. he loves taking naps with my niece, and its a must for him to go for a car ride everyday! and he STILL DOESNT BARK, he will let one out every once in the greatest while, but nothing like his old pal. My family loves him very much, every day my dad always says, " who wouldnt want this dog!?" these are a few pictures that i found, once i get some more ill send them over! Until next time love

Danielle & David

Shes doing great...we all love her. I will send some pictures soon. Thank you for inquiring.

Debbie

Shelby (fka Elizabeth)
February 14, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
Elizabeth who is now named Shelby is doing great. We go on daily walks throughout the various trails in Amherst which she loves to do. She also loves her new bed which we set up in the living room for her. I don't think she believed her good fortune when we took her home because she would not leave her plush bed for the first week of her stay with us. She's coming out of her shell nicely though and is a very loving dog. We feel very fortunate to have her and already have a strong bond with her. Other than chewing on things as puppies will do, she is the perfect dog and we hope to have a lifetime of fun with her!! I will probably bring her by to say hi in a few months as she loves to ride in the car. Thanks for your continued interest and support. Sincerely,

Joe C.

Charlie
February 13, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
Charlie is doing great! He is in his 5th week of obedience training and is catching on quick. He has been a wonderful addition to our family and we are looking forward to the many years of joy and entertainment he has to offer. Thanks again for checking in. Thanks,

Aimee

Abby (fka Eliza)
February 9, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
We adopted Eliza the end of October and have changed her name to Abby the Tabby. She is a Maine Coon - I wondered when I saw her at 8 weeks with a long tail, long legs, and the hair tufts in her ears. She has grown quickly and as she approaches her 6 month birthday she is over 8 pounds and on her way to being a big girl. Her coat is growing in now and every morning she seems to have gotten bigger overnight. As you can imagine our great big kitten is a little clumsy and skids around corners on our hardwood floors as she chases her chew toys. She seems to be still teething and loves to chew on her toys then drop them in her water bowl. Last week she jumped on the dinner table while we were eating with guests. She slid on the tablecloth and Abby and the tablecloth crashed into my husband's plate of pot roast. Fortunately our guests are cat lovers! She's learned a few tricks: she gives a high five when it's time for her vitamin and stands on her hind legs and squeaks for her dinner. We thank Second Chance for the wonderful program you run and for helping us find our little girl.

Janice and Paul H.

Bear
February 7, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
It is very nice to hear from you. Bear is doing very well and I think he is fitting right in to his new home. He get's along with our other dog Sampson who is 11 years old which was a major concern of ours in the beginning. Bear loves to go outside and a lot of the time he will go out together with Sampson. He does have a playful side that comes out every now and then when he will just walk by one of the toys and for no reason pick it up and throw it. Sometimes when he goes out and it's snowing he will come in after awhile and come over to you and wipe off his face on your pants. Bear met his new vet the other day and it went well. He has received all his shots and got some med refills and some heartworm chewies. He weighs 93 pounds, WOW. Bear has been a welcomed addition to our home and we feel that he appears to be happy and content. Sincerely,

Rick & Heidi K.

Zoe
February 3, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
Zoey is doing great! She is part of the family and had no problem making herself right at home. She loves everyone that meets her and is just a joy to have around! Best,

Lindsay

Bear
February 3, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
Bear is awesome. we just love him. He is a handfull sometimes but he is generally a good boy. We are now trying to teach him that the cat is his friend! They are struggling with their relationship right now. He is very teachable. If I may ask a question. He has been eating poop. Why do they do this? I pick up after every time to avoid him doing this. I will try and get pictures to you soon.

Cali (fka Kelly)
February 2, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
It now has been just over a month since we brought Cali home (FKA Kelly) For a 6mo old puppy who had not been house broken, crate trained, or leash trained she has adjusted well. We had no trouble with the house or crate training. She is such a good girl. Most important is that Cali has become a part of our family. She has found her place among the 4 children and enjoys all the attention and love she receives. She has become a running partner a few days a week and completes our family. We thank you and the rest of the team at SCAS for taking care of her until she was able to find her new home and family. I have enclosed a few pictures of Cali and the kids for you. Best Regards,

The Holmbergs

Callie
January 31, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
Callie is doing very good. We're taking her to obedience class, and she's having fun. Here's a picture of her in her corner with her stuffed animal. She really likes him, and he's the only toy she hasn't ripped up yet. She used him like a pillow, but if you give her a pillow she's use that instead. Callie is loving living with us and has made a great addition to the family. Sincerely,

The Martinez Family

Chance
January 31, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
I must admit that Chance is the coolest dog ever. He will sit and relax with me while I watch tv. He's always ready to go outside and like to run around. I do keep him on a leash as he likes to run a little and wander. He obeys to sit, stay, go, outside, down and doesn't really beg for food although he does like to sniff. He never barks unless someone is at the front door. He warms up to them rather quickly and then sits on her little spot on the couch. I allow it as I put a blanket down where he likes to sit. He doesn't really like balls of any kind, but like the fluffy stuffed animal type toys. He likes the small chew treats as well. He never barks in the house or bites or pushes people around. He is great around kids and other dogs. At first he ignores them a little but then he gets curious. During the day I have him crated and then when I get home from work he jumps out plays with me a little and then finds his nearest chew toy. He only had one accident in my house, but that was because he was left alone for more than an hr unsupervised. I think he gets a little sad and nervous when not in his crate. He is so friendly and adorable. All my friends really like him because he plays, but if you get tired of it he'll amuze himself. He tells me when he has to pee or potty or even when he's hungry. All in all he's great and a great addition to my household. I think I may have a pic or two to share with you. Thanks again for giving me this opportunity. Chance is awesome!!

Oboe (fka Foster)
January 31, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
We have renamed Foster, Oboe, like the woodwind. He has adjusted very well to his new pack and territory and is thriving. His first visit to the vet found roundworm which cleared up after his first treatment. 34 lbs then, about 50 lbs now. He has grown and increased muscle. He is very smart, eager to please, affectionate and has a distinct personality. My daughter calls him a 'hoarder collie' because he is a collector. He gets along very well with his older sister, Doodle. She has become a better dog in the process. Although, I'm trying to work with him on this, he remains very skittish about thrown objects. This means no catch and limited fetch. I suspect someone threw things at him in the past. I certainly hope the neighbors are not abusing the dogs at your shelter, but I think it is worthy of mention. Oboe was very needy when he first arrived, but he is much more self-assured now. Although he engages all family members, he has developed a special bond with me. The issues have been pretty much what one would expect when adopting a 5 month old puppy. We don't need any help at this time, but do appreciate your interest and inquiry. We feel fortunate to have adopted Oboe from your shelter. Best wishes,

Charl Van Schoick

Greta (fka Helga)
January 31, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
Helga (now named Greta) is doing just great!!!! Has adjusted just fine and is a very loving dog.Has a great time with our daughters' dogs--a yellow lab and a huskie/german shepherd mix. Also has play-time with a neighbor-hood puppy. We are so happy with her, and looking forward to summer when she can go on boat-rides with us.

Minnie
January 24, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
Just wanted to send a picture of Minnie in her favorite spot and with her favorite little girl. She has come out of her shell more and more each day. She has a favorite mouse that she carries around like a dog would and her favorite thing to do is toss it in the air and then "attack" it. She has brought lots of smiles and laughter into our home.

Michelle

Buttercup (Caroline)
January 18, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
Buttercup (fka Caroline) is a very happy, affectionate pooch that we love having in our home. She appears to love everyone. She can be a little hard to handle sometimes, but we are trying to teach her manners, and Buttercup seems eager to learn. She already knows 'sit,' 'paw' and 'down.' We are also happy to see that she plays well with other dogs. When we are out walking, people frequently ask what kind of dog she is and are surprised to learn such a friendly dog is a pit bull.

Edgar (fka Jinx)
January 12, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
Edgar (name change!) is absolutely wonderful. I wish I could have shared the first six years of his life with him, but I am so happy to have him with me now and love him dearly. I only hope that Edgar is as happy to have me as I am to have him.

Reese and Tangerine
January 12, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
There are not enough words in the English language to thank you for all that you do. Because of your endless dedication, Reese & Tangerine had a place to go to before coming home with us. They have so much fun together and their 1st Christmas was very enjoyable. They loved to climb the Christmas tree, knock the ornaments around the house and play with the new toys Santa brought them. We look forward to many many years together with them.

Holly & Jason

Little Sweetheart
January 12, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
Little sweetheart is doing fine, She loves the dogs and they knew she was part of the family the first day. She is a night owl, which is what I may name her, right now it's "mummy loves you" which is all I seem to say to her.

Lila and Randy

Jazz (fka Chris)
January 12, 2010

Maryann

Merry and Pippin
(fka Dasher and Lightening McQueen)
January 12, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
The kittens are doing awesome. Merry (FKA Dasher, on the left) and Pippin (FKA Lightning McQueen, right) are enjoying their new home and getting to know their new big brothers, Oliver and Simba. They were a little shy at first (my 15+ pounds kitties were a little intimidating at first, and poor Pippin got whacked in the head more than a few times by Oliver for being a little too curious!), but now they are all buddies. Thanks again,

Cheryl

Ottowa
January 12, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
Ottowa spends most of the day under the bed, but does venture out and will follow me around, cuddle, sprawl out on my computer desk and play at times. I think he is still getting used to our household. I've attached a picture of him. Thank you for your e-mail.

Magic and Tic Tac
January 11, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
Magic is doing really well at my house; she has tons of energy and loves running around and chasing toys, as well as curling up in my Papasan chair and falling asleep. She is still a little shy with me, but is coming around a little more each day. While I was initially somewhat nervous about how she would get along with my much larger male cat, Magic and Tic Tac quickly became friends and spend most of their days snuggling together under my bed (although wrestling, initiated by Magic, is pretty common, too!). I am sooooo glad that I adopted Magic as she is quickly becoming an integral part of my household and I know that Tic Tac would be lost without her already! Thank you for taking such good care of her and making sure that she would be around for someone like me to adopt. Attached is a picture of Magic sprawled out on my bed with her new big brother.....they definitely looked "busted" when I walked in the room :)

Kim

Cecilia
January 12, 2010

Maya
January 11, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
I'm Maya. I'd like to thank Second Chance for taking good care of me and for giving me to such a wonderful family. This is me with my new friend, Trevor. We have so much fun together. I saw snow for the first time, and I love to play in it and go sledding with Trevor. I fly through the snow and can turn on a dime. I have lots of room to run around. I'm so happy here.

Maya, Trevor, and new family

Jaida (fka Patunia)
January 8, 2010
Hi Second Chance,
We are so happy with our new addition to our family! Thank you to Second Chance Animal Shelter for all you did. As you can see by the picture, Jaida has made herself very much at home. She has already taken over our bed leaving me on the couch her first night with us! WE LOVE HER!

Dave and Susan and all the kids... Kenny, Josh, Jill, Brittany, and Jackie

Lucky (fka Papa Bear)
December 30, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Lucky, aka Papa Bear, is doing fine and feels as if he has been with us for a long, long, time, he has made himself quite at home. We love him, he is a great addition to the family and gets along well with the other kitties in our home and he is quite the talker! Thanks Again,

Matty
December 23, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Wanted to give you some updated pics of Matty, who we adopted in April. He’s almost 11 mos old and is just a big beautiful boy with a big beautiful heart. He weighs in at about 77lbs now and is the true Australian Shepherd “Velcro” dog. He’s with us every minute. He’s brought so much love into our home, Bob and I are grateful everyday for having adopted him. Thanks again to you and everyone at the shelter.

Bob & Sharon Z.

Jack and Lilly
(fka Jack and Jill)
December 21, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
The happiness of my daughters and my family is so great!! Jack & Lilly enjoyed exploring their new home. They are so well behaved and well trained that the only thing we have to do is to enjoy them. My youngest daughter (5) calls her cat "baby" and my oldest tells Lilly... you are a good girl. It's been such a blessing for my daughters because now they can enjoy and keep developing love and care for God's creation. Jack & Lilly love playing under the Xmas tree, playing hide and seek, catch. etc. etc. It was great getting these "babies" from Second Chance, what a great opportunity to adopt our newest family members from such a great shelter. Have a wonderful Xmas and a Happy New Year!

Oscar, Linus and Grey
(fka Moo-Moo, Sunny, Anya)
December 20, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
I adopted Moo-Moo, Sunny and Anya (now known respectively as Oscar, Linus and Grey) in May of 2009. Here is a recent picture of them sleeping on the couch together. They are all doing great and have adapted VERY well to their new home. Grey is still a little skittish around others, especially my husband, but she warmed up to me pretty quickly. Oscar is the mischievous one, loves to play fetch and believe it or not, loves to hide socks, slippers, hand towels under the beds and behind the couches. Linus loves to eat, but is the skinniest one of the group! He has taken a liking to sharing my pillow with me at night. They are all doing wonderful, and am so happy that I stumbled across your website on my mission to find cats for my new home. Thanks again, and Happy Holidays!

Cory & Brett

Mindy (fka Mischief)
December 19, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Mischief (Now Mindy) has adjusted beautifully. She is living nicely with our cats, and they often will put her in her place if she gets a little too rambunctious. She was not house broken when we adopted her and she managed to get housebroken in a matter of a few days. All and all, I don’t think there is anything we’re not already working on that I am worried about. She is a great dog, very smart and very trainable.

Jennifer, Brian, Hannah and Christopher D.

Katie
December 19, 2009
Hi Second Chance
Katie is doing very well!!! She and the kids are the best of friends now. They play together and watch tv together. She tries to let me let her sleep with them but to the crate she goes and she actually does very well in there. She loves to go out to the bus. The cats and she tolerate each other very well. They stay out of her way and she eats their food. All in all she is great!!! She is like an old soul and not a 6 month old puppy. She hardly barks, doesn't knock the kids down, is very protective of the kids and is very happy to just sit and cuddle me on the couch. I will send a picture as soon as I can...I'm really trying to get her to wear the santa hat and not eat it!! Thanks for checking in!!!!

Venom (fka Zack)
December 14, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Zack has adjusted to life with us, splendidly! The boys renamed him "Venom" (after the villain in spiderman 3 ) and he is anything BUT a villain! He loves being in the middle of whatever you are doing and has been a great playmate for the kids. We just love him and couldn't be more pleased with his happy personality! Thanks for everything! Sincerely,

The Crowell Family

Sassy and Peanut
December 14, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
It has been a wonderful six months. They have settled in beautifully. Peanut was especially nervous at first and still tends to be a little anxious about new things. But they are both enjoying walks and running on the beach. Although they were only housebroken when they arrived, they now know "sit", "stay", "come" and "go home". Now that the beach has fewer people, they are having wonderful walks without the leads. Sassy loves to run. Peanut usually stays closer, but they both come when called and are very good with people and other dogs. They are exceptional with small children.

Molly (fka Rachel)
December 9, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Molly has adjusted very well, she loves to tease the dog she is the Boss of him and the house. I play the cat and mouse game with her, I throw her stuffed mouse down the long hall ,she flies down the hall for it and then brings it back to me to throw again. Who would have thought a cat could play fetch Well she does. Thank You so much for bringing her to the shelter she has brought such joy to us she makes us laugh she is like the little toddler who sometimes gets into stuff We just love her! Thank You again.

Belle and Mel
December 8, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Mel & Belle are doing great! We are so happy to have made them a part of our family. Mel got used to our home right away, Belle was very shy but Mel helped her through it. Now they are both very loving and love to cuddle. They have tons of energy and love to play with each other. Now we can't picture our home with out them. Thanks Second Chance!

Zues (fka Pumpkin)
December 8, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Zeus (Pumpkin) is doing great! He loves all the space to play with. He's always crawling around the window sills and under my bed. He's the sweetest cat I've ever met. He always wants to be pet. He wakes me up with headbutts pretty much every morning. And whenever I'm on the computer or watching tv on the couch he's in my lap looking for attention. I can't even imagine this apt. without him and it hasn't even been a full month yet. haha. I'll include a few pictures.

Seth & Zeus

Spooky
December 8, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Spooky is doing very well! We are very happy to have him in our family. He still loves to sit on our shoulders, which is the first thing he did when we saw him at the shelter. He seems to have adjusted extremely well to our lifestyle and seems to be very happy in his new home. We took him for his first (supervised) outdoor adventure, and he was definitely curious, but hesitant to leave our sides (or rather, shoulders). We'd still like for him to be an indoor/outdoor cat, but will take things slowly in order to keep him stress-free. Overall, he is happy, healthy, and we love having him in our lives! Thank you for everything. Sincerely,

Ben and Cathy C. (and Spooky!)

Hannah
December 8, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Hannah is doing good. My boys renamed her Ravage after the cat in the Transformers movie. We just love her. My cat Moxie was really lonely, she's really cheered him up. At night you can hear them tearing the house up. Thank You so much.

Little Rascal and Tigger
(fka Humpty Dumpty)
December 3, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Little Rascal and my cat Tigger get along great. They are now running through the house playing and rubbing up against each other, even laying next to each other. Occasionally I hear a hiss out of Tigger, but that is expected because it was his house. Here's a pic of Little Rascal and Tigger.

Amy and Maya
December 1, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
We adopted Amy a few weeks ago, and she is doing fabulous! She loves her new big sister Maya and I find them often together like this picture. She has adjusted well to her new home and everyone loves her.

Thank you from the Sargis Family

Patches (fka Suzie Q)
November 30, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Patches (fka Suzie Q) is mostly a joy - occasionally a real pain but we love her!! As you can probably tell from the picture, we love her very much. She has brightened our lives. We are still working on the puppy energy but every day brings progress. She is a very good girl.

Captain
November 30, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Just sending a couple of Captain's recent photos. He is a charmer!! We do love him. So far lots of exercise. He has work ahead with the cats. Favorite hobby his tossing toys down cellar and barking until we retrieve them. He excels at catching peanuts. Thank you for allowing us to have him join our family.

Robin N.

Phi (fka Stacy)
November 29, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Phi is doing very well. Although shy at first she now owns every room in the house- especially those we had agreed would be cat-free rooms. Phi's favorite things: sitting on my laptop while I am trying to work, eating, and attacking our feet while we watch movies. She is so sweet and dainty and we love her. Thanks for taking care of her up until we found her. Best,

Mackenzie

Mischief (fka Sherry)
November 30, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
"Sherry" has been renamed Mischief and she is AWESOME! I talked with the vet and she agreed that Mischief would benefit from a playmate, so I adopted another kitty from NEADY cats - her name is Mayhem. The two of them are adorable together, but Mischief is my favorite - she loves to snuggle and sleeps curled in my arms with her nose in my hand every time I lie down. She is the sweetest kitten i think I have ever met. thank you so much!

Carol

Lexy and Mosey
(fka Alex and Mo)
November 27, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Lexy (orange and white) and Mosey (black and white) took only a few days to adjust to their new home since coming to us in September. We have a 1.5 yr old "puppy", Ginger, with whom they have become good friends. Mosey has been licking her ears in affection and Ginger enjoys it. As a matter of fact Mosey climbs into my lap and has been trying to lick my ears! The kittens have romped from one end of the great room to the other. They have respected bedtime and greeted us each morning with tails high and voices singing. They are very communicative. Thank you for connecting us. We are one happy family. The picture is from Thanksgiving Day. The kittens even greeted the visiting family!

Esther
November 18, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
On October 1,2009 my family and I adopted a sweet black kitten by the name of Esther. We have since renamed her Bess. She has settled into her forever home remarkably well. She had the dogs in their place as soon as she came out of the cat carrier that first night, and after about a week, she and our other cat were snuggled together on one of the back porch chairs. We have enjoyed having Bess in our family, and we thank you for all the great work that you do.

Bailey
November 18, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Bailey is doing really well, it took no time for her to make herself at home and take over the couch. we could never have dreamed she could be such a wonderful companion, she is absolutely an angel. She has more love and attention than she knows what to do with. She has been so much fun and I am not sure who is happier her or us. She is a real love..and count our blessings that she is ours. She is getting better at riding in the car the more we go out. She is full of energy and gives us alot of exercise and freshair, she loves being outside. I will send pictures soon and keep in touch. Thank you for all you do . Have a nice Thanksgiving.. We have alot to be thankful for.

Ollie (fka Robert)
November 15, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Ollie (our kitty) has done very well in our apartment. He loves to run around the apartment, play with his toys, but also really enjoys being petted and picked up. He sleeps on our bed with us. We took him to the vet to get a physical and booster shots, and the vet said he's doing great. He's eating very well, and we're making sure to limit his food intake somewhat as per advice of the vet and give him food that's appropriate for a kitty his age. Otherwise, there's nothing else that I can remember right now, but overall, he's doing great and he's been an amazing addition for us and makes everyone around him so happy! Thanks for checking in on us!

Cherokee with friends
Drew and Sasha
October 28, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
It's been a while since I sent a Cherokee update. He's about 8 years old now, and still doing very well. He's gotten a little grey in the snout, but he' still energetic, athletic and very agile! He's just about mastered the game of frisbee, taking flying leaps and flips in the air just to catch it. He spent the summer swimming in our pool, and at my parent's house boating and swimming. Over the years, he's developed a tremendous friendship with one of our cats, Drew, and our adopted Greyhound Sasha, you'll see in the pictures. The two of them are inseperable. Please enjoy the pics! Take Care,

Jill (Davis) Thomas

Like a dog!! She is so much fun to have around though, so THANK YOU!!! Sincerely,

Paulie and Parker...Now known as Bruschi and Brady (we are Pats fans!) They are doing great! They love to snuggle with each other, the humans, and even our dog Hershey! They are adjusting well, and bringing lots of smiles to our faces with all of their playful antics. They love all of their toys, and their cat condo. We are all looking forward to many years of snuggling with the kittens. Thanks to all of you at Second Chance for giving us the opportunity to provide a forever home for the kitties!!

Mooshi (fka Kaydoe)
October 24, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Kaydoe is now named Mooshi and she is doing great!! She's such a sweet little bundle of fluff. It took a little while for her to accept our other kitty Murphy but now they're playing all the time and I'm sure it won't be long until they're snuggling up together. Mooshi is a great fit for our home. Thanks so much for all you do.

Devon and Grady
September 29, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Oliver and Grady just started this last night! Grady was asleep on the chair and Oliver always likes to bother him and poor Grady always ends up jumping down. However, this time they just cuddled up together and fell asleep. They've become good friends!! Thanks "Second Chance" for saving them for us!!

Julianne N.

Toni
September 29, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Toni's new name is Black Jack, and I can tell you that he is the most personable cat we have ever had. He is full of energy as most kittens do. He is acclamating very well to his new home. He gets along very well with our black lab and our other cat GiGi. Although he's a littl to overbearing at times toward her. Black jack is an awesome addition to our family, we cannot imagine life without him.

Stars and Sun
September 23, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Both kittens are doing fine! They have been renamed George and Gracie. We love them and they bring us such joy. I have attached a few pictures of them, they are starting to get big! Gracie is the bold explorer, into everything. George is more laid back and is the follower, letting his sister lead the way. They are both soooo lovable! Thank you for letting me adopt such wonderful little babies!

Ruby and Wally
September 17, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
When I adopted Ruby (aka Chi) I was looking for an all orange cat, but she was just too cute and we ended up bringing her home and she fit in immediately. I found an all orange cat to love too, but Ruby wasn't to thrilled. She spent a week constantly hissing at the new addition, she finally gave in and now they get along great. Its amazing to hear the sound of their feet running back and forth in the house from their chasing each other. I think they have a rule, I chase you then you chase me :) They are too cute together and exactly what I was hoping for. I'm so glad I found both of them. Attached is a picture of Ruby and Wally, brother and sister... soo cute, I love it!!! Thanks again

Pam

Casey
September 15, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
"Casey" my 9 yr old "kitty" is doing just fine. When I got her home, and after she inspected every room in the house, it was just minutes when she quickly became "the boss" of the house and everything in in! She is great company for my 3 1/2 yr. old cat "Margo" and Casey's deafness does not appear to be a factor for anything. She seems to understand some of my hand signals but on the other hand, I don't think she really needs them or wants them. Casey loves to be chased and we play hide-and-seek until she wears me out.... and, of course, she always wins. My family and friends have met her and can't believe how beautiful she is and how she still acts like a kitten. She certainly is a charmer with her white fluffy fur and her blue, blue eyes. I have had many cats over the years but always wanted a white cat with blue eyes and now I have one. I love her to pieces. I want to thank Second Chance Animal Shelter for their assistance with Casey's adoption, etc., and a big THANK YOU to the Stephen M. foster care family, for taking such great care of Casey over the years...they did a superb job. Casey is gorgeous and I know she has a "forever home". As a small part of keeping Casey gorgeous, we (Casey and I) are both going to have our "nails" done next week, of course, not at the same Groomer! Julie, thanks for asking for an update on Casey -- it further shows me that Second Chance still cares about their sheltered animals, even long after their adoption.

Sally (fka Sara)
September 14, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
I am writing to let everyone know I love my new home and new family. I run around and play all day with my big brother Fritz. When Fritz is tired I enjoy splashing in my kiddie pool. Everyone I have met find me very adorable and sweet. I few people have joked about taking me to their house because I am such a great puppy. I am not a fan of bath time even though my fur is now soft, silky, and shiny.

Murphy
September 14, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
This beautiful cat is a joy to us, murphy is so lovable, he is like a stuffed teddy bear, he loves kids and food, (he likes peanut butter, potatoes, peas, cauliflower, pancakes, chicken, swordfish, etc.)

Miss Kitty
(fka Missy)
September 14, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Missy (we renamed her from Ms. Kitty) is doing great. She loves being in our windows, and sleeping in our bed at night. She naps on her little couch in the basement when our 3 year old gets a little noisy. She settled in very quickly. We love having her here. Here are a few pictures of our Missy.

Lily and Tootsie
(fka Laura)
September 14, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Lily and Tootsie (f/k/a Laura) were the perfect additon to our family! They adjusted quickly and so did we. Our daughters Lauren and Leah can't wait to get home from school to play with them every day now. We're so happy that we made the decison to adopt from Second Chance Animal Shelter! Thanks,

The Cutler Family

Lulu (fka Mona)
September 9, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Our new kitty Lulu (Mona) has adjusted very well. I've been trying to get some pictures of her but it's not so easy with a black cat. She plays with our Westie, Willie, and they get along great. Thanks.

Tracy

Snickers (fka Tomato)
September 8, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Just wanted to update you on "Tomato". We adopted him August 5th and he adjusted to his new surroundings just fine. He was completely litter box trained from the first day. We renamed him Snickers. He is happy and healthy and has been wonderful company for the whole family. He is the most sociable cat we've ever owned. Even Ollie our puppy adores him! Snickers is very lovable and affectionate and playful as well. He fetches his toys and loves playing with Ollie. They run through the house chasing one another and then settle down and nap together. We couldn't have chosen a better kitty than Snickers. Thanks so much for helping us find him.

Frank, Lisa, Zach, Lydia & Owen

Bailey (fka Zoey)
September 4, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Bailey (fka Zoey) enjoyed playing in the yard her first day home. She has already chosen a favorite toy and spent quite a while running around and tossing it about. She then happily took a rest in the grass. What a trooper...long car ride home...new place... and she still has the heart to play! I love her.

Jack (fka Bromley)
September 3, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Bromley's new name is Jack. He has adapted pretty well to his new home. We had to start crating him during the day while we were at work. He liked to jump up onto the counters and pull things off them while we were gone. Jack gets let out while we are at work by my sister and a friend down the street. He is sooo excited when we come home from work. He wants to be around us all the time. While watching tv at night, he'll lay in his crate that is now in our livingroom. He sleeps on a comforter in our room at night and doesn't get up until morning! He's getting along with everyone that has visited. He loves the walks, he loves the rides in the truck. He's slowly getting used to the boat rides too. We are blessed to have Jack in our lives. Sheri and I love him dearly. We both thank you and the shelter for everything you did to make this all possible.

Roger B.

Penny
September 3, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Penny is doing very well - she is quite a character! She has been with us a couple months now, and loves to jog a couple miles a couple times a week, and has climbed Wachusett Mountain. She carried water for herself and another dog. But with Penny, it's really all about the ball. If I'm working at my computer she'll put it on the printer, if I'm doing laundry she'll put it in the laundry basket, and if I'm watering plants she'll put it in one of the pots. Then she'll perk her ears up and look at me till I throw it. She does everything she can to make it fun. She'll also drop it on the floor and roll it toward you with her nose - I think she was doing that at the shelter. She even rolled it toward one of the cats. She has so much energy, no one can believe she is 7 years old. She's always seems happy and is friendly to people who come to visit. Thanks for taking care of her while she looked for a new home.

Sue and Steve S.

Justin
September 3, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
We adopted Justin 3 weeks ago and he has made our lives so happy. He adjusted so well right away and is so loveable and sweet. He loves riding in the car and especially loves sleeping in our bed with his head on the pillow. We feel that the past owners gave Justin a lot of love and good training. We had been so unhappy since our little dog, Benney succumbed to cancer in May. Justin has brought us so much pleasure. We want to thank all at Second Chance, especially Joe and Nicole.

Bette & Joe

Bess
September 3, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Bess (IZZY) is doing very well. she is sweet and lovable. she has seemed to of mastered the potty training. she goes for walks at least three times a day and gets along very well with shooter.... ( the newfoundland ) our biggest issue right now is the chewing and understanding of what can be chewed on and what shouldnt be chewed on. She is loved by everyone here and is truly a beautiful dog .....

Sadie
September 3, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
I'm having a great summer. We go to the beach. Here I am with some of my two legged friends. Can't wait for my next trip.

Love Sadie

Blackie
September 3, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Just writing to let you know that Blackie is doing great. He loves his new home, he's acting like a little guard dog already. I think he is leary of the darkness but he will get over it, when he has to go outside before bedtime, he sticks right next to me. The loud noises at night, tree frogs, he wonders about, but all in all, we coldn't have picked a better dog/puppy. I will add a few pictures of him in the grass, he really likes that, peeping through the grass and finding bugs, swatting at them and jumping all over them like an attack. Blackie, my husband and I are have a great time. I believe thanks to you guys at the shelter, Knock on wood, he is all house trained. He is such a joy. Thank you so much for allowing us to adopt him.

Vickie and Rick M.

Zora
September 3, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
I am adapting very well to my new home, I have been taken around and shown to a lot of people, who love me very much, Michele and Tom love me also. There was even a party for me this past Sunday 7/12,and everyone at the party took an instant liking to me. Thank you for taking such good care of me and placing me with such loving parents.

Love, Zora P.

Cricket
September 1, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Cricket has adjusted and seems to like being here. She usually sleeps at the foot of Alex (our 2-year-old's) bed and when they get up in the morning, the first thing Alex does is it point at her food dish and say, "Get kitty food", to remind us to get her fresh food and water. She's very gentle with both boys and they just love watching her play with her toys and things. I attached a picture of Alex and Cricket sitting in his bean bag. Thanks for checking in!

Sarafina (fka Panther)
September 1, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
We wanted to let you know that panther, now Sarafina, has adjusted well and is doing great. She is a joy to have in the house and we love her. We want to thank you and all of your staff for all of your help and ease of adopting such a great welcome addition to our family. She is a perfect fit for us. Thank you,

Tim, Jocelyn Ella, Lila & Sarafina

Cece (fka Cecilia)
September 1, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Cecilia has adapted to our family well. She was of course our 3 year olds bday present and she is so calm when Avelyn picks her up...still working on the gentleness from the 3 year olds end, but it's going well. Cece has a best friend in Groucho (Bonnie) whom we adopted a week before Cece...they run around the house and get into everything together.

Cabbit (fka Bobcat)
September 1, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Cabbit (previously Bobcat) is doing wonderfully in his new home. He made himself at home immediately and is happy, playful and friendly. Everyone who meets him thinks he's adorable. He had his first vet visit last week and was given a clean bill of health. He is a little ball of energy that also takes time out to curl up next to someone to cuddle or to take a nap. He has even started letting me sleep in occasionally! Thank you so much!

Kim

Penny (fka Broccoli)
August 7, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Penny (fka - Broccoli) is doing very well. She has adjusted comfortably to our home. Penny is extremely social; she is a kitty who loves being in the middle of all the action and gets excited anytime someone new comes around. She follows us around our home, and when she's not playing, she loves to cuddle. Instead of choosing open space in our home to play, Penny does things like bring her toys up onto our bed when we're sleeping. She has a feisty personality and there is never a dull moment with her around ... but that is what we love so much about her!! Thanks!

Kate

Duchess
August 6, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
We just wanted to let you know how Duchess was doing. We adopted her on 12-03-06 and she is wonderful. Shortly after we got her we rescued another smaller dog and they have been best friends ever since.

Cooper
August 6, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Cooper and Chazzy still love each other. Cooper is starting obedience training the end of the month. After he passes that, he is going to agility class.

Hooch
August 6, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
It has been almost 1 1/2 years since I adopted my best friend- Hooch, and I've never regretted that move! I adopted him at 6 months old (65 pounds), and he will be 2 years old in a few days. Hooch is such a pleasure to have in my home that it's hard to put into words. He is a friend who seems to understand my thoughts... he reliably wants to celebrate with me in happiness, AND comfort me through sadness: he reads my moods & thoughts. He is a social greeter, who greets my family and friends with love & respect. He is also the one who protects me at night, as any noise out of the ordinary becomes an instant "alert' for him. You see him here, anticipating where the next tennis ball will fall... he loves them so... He especially loves searching the woods for them when they seem to "fly" out of sight into the wood! It sharpens his searching skills!! Obedience classes were a "must" for him, due to his large size (106 pounds- all muscle- as his final adult weight), strength, and will. And honestly, the value of obedience classes (beginner & intermediate) was worth it's weight in gold!! He's very well behaved, responsive to commands, walks on a leash or at "heel" (unleashed) comfortably, & is a very social canine friend. He "loves" doggie-day-care days, where he gets to play with other canine friends. He also just LOVES my cat (7 pounds), though it took her a whole year to figure out that he wasn't going to eat her!! I never would have allowed my last dog (though I loved her dearly) near my new baby grandson, but Hooch just adores him. None-the-less, I always supervise! No matter what, any & every dog needs to be supervised around young children & babies. Hooch is a true joy in my life, who I would never have met had it not been for the Second Chance Animal Shelter. I'm so very happy with him that I wanted to send you an update for his 2ND birthday!! He'll be getting some fresh butcher bones & frozen vanilla yogurt for his birthday- That's about as good as it can get!! Well, maybe a new stash of tennis balls!!! I just cannot express the depth of my gratitude for finding Hooch. Thank you for the work that you do... Hooch & I know how very important it is! Sincerely,

Cindy C.

Cricket (fka Bow)
August 6, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
I just wanted to let you know that Cricket (was named Bow) is doing very well. She has made great friends with the other cats and even plays tag with them, wether they want to play or not. She's an adorable little spit-fire with a personality all her own. She loves to go to sleep with me and wake me up in the morning by licking my face... then nibbling if I don't respond. She's got a very layed back personality and she fits right in. I love her so much and I'm so glad my sister and her boyfriend talked me into taking her home.

Hi Second Chance,
I just wanted to let you know John talked to me all the way home last night! He's already put the dogs in their place, so I don't need to worry about that. Now him and the other kitties need to get their pecking order straightened out. There was quite a bit of hissing and growling going on last night and this morning but I'm sure they will figure it out. He follows me around everywhere, he's a real sweetie. Thanks again!

Jack (fka George)
July 24, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Jack is doing great and has been a wonderful addition to the family. He is happy, active and healthy! Thank you for all you and your staff do to ensure families that they are receiving the "best service and care" when it comes to pet adoption.

Zooey (fka Lynx)
July 23, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Thank you for checking in on "Linx" (now named Zooey). She is doing wonderfully in her new home, and she is getting along great with her two sisters. She had her first vet visit (for her booster shot), and she even handled that like a pro. Attached is a photo of Zooey giving her sister Starbuck a bath on the kitty perch. These two love each other and play all day (and sometimes during the wee hours of the night). Thank you for helping to complete our little family--Zooey seems like she was meant to be with us! Best,

Jen

Buddy (fka Brad)
July 20, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Buddy is a wonderful addition to our family. He is as lovable as he is curious. Our family is enjoying him very much. He is our childrens first kitten and they think he is the best. Our dog (a black lab) and Buddy are pals already! We love to see them sleeping together and licking each others faces! We can tell he is as happy with us as we are with him!!! Thank you!!!!

Abby (fka Stacey)
July 19, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Abby had a great first night. She is getting along well with the girls and is being a super good dog about going outside. She slept in her crate without crying and is soaking up the attention she is getting. Some pics are attached, notice the whole no stinky dogs on the couch rule lasted all of 5 minutes. She did have a bath last night and even though it wasn't her favorite thing in the world, she tolerated it well. Annette is convinced that we won the puppy lottery, and I have to agree. :) Thank you so much for taking such good care of her while she was at Second Chance!

Sadie, Mario and Luigi
July 12, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
The "pack" is doing great. The pugs had to learn a little bit of manners, okay ALOT but they are doing wonderful. Sadie loves them, the three of them play with a toy, sadie shaking it, the pugs just bashing heads together. I love them all but my pack is complete (at least thats what Keith says but we will see). Thank you so much for letting me know about them. Thanks!

Icarus (fka Carl)
and Binks
July 8, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Carl, now known as Icarus/Icky, has been the perfect addition to our family. He and our 10 month old kitten Binks were fast friends and are now great partners in crime. Icarus is an extremely affectionate kitten and can always be found on either of our necks, laps, or shoulders if he isn't curled up with his brother. Things couldn't have gone better, we couldn't be happier! Thank you so much!

Clarence
July 6, 2009
Hi Second Chance
I adopted Clarence a little over two years ago and I thought it would be nice to give you an update. Clarence had grown into a beautiful adult cat. He is very timid around lots of people, but when its just me and him in my room, he is very very VERY affectionate. He is the best companion a teenage girl could ask for. He was even in my senior pictures with me! He wasn't too happy with the camera flashes after a while, but the photographer had a toy that kept him looking at the camera and he did very well. He gets along with the dog very well now, I even catch them napping together sometimes!! Your shelter is a wonderful organization and I could never thank you enough for bringing my clairy-airy-ence into my life. I have attached a picture now that he is all grown up. Thank you again and again and again!!

Kelli

Pecan
July 2, 2009
Hi Second Chance
Just a quick update on Pecan... She is the sweetest little kitten, that loves to cuddle up with anyone. She's sitting in my lap and purring quite loudly as I type. She's pretty good at harrassing our other cat, but I don't think he minds. It took her a little longer to get comfortable with the dog, but they are now good friends, as well. Thanks for helping us find her,

Heather

Squirrel and Moose
(fka Salty and Freddy)
July 1, 2009
Hi Second Chance
We adopted Moose and Squirrel (fka Salty and Freddy) back in February of 2009 but never got a chance to write in to let you know how they were doing. We just wanted you to know that they are doing great. We love them more than anything and could not imagine life without them in it. They still act like kittens and keep each other company when we're at work. All our friends agree that they are the best cats. Thank you so much for finding them and letting us adopt them!

Basil (fka Bazill)
July 1, 2009
Hi Second Chance
Basil is doing great in his new home! He is such a loveable, happy boy! He loves stuffed toys and milkbones. He loves playing ball and frisbee outside (he is a great catcher). A big part of the reason we adopted Basil was because our daughters ages 5 and 8 were timid around dogs. I'm happy to say that the girls are dog lovers now! Basil probably gets more attention than he knows what to do with from them now. He waits in the window for the bus to come after school is out. We are still working on leash walking but he is definitely improving. We always get comments from our friends and neighbors as to what a great dog he is and they are absolutely right! Thank you so much!

Winston
June 29, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Winston is doing terrific. He seems very well adjusted to his surroundings. Today he doesn't seem to have the need to follow me every time I leave the room. He is doing pretty good on his leash; loves his stuffed tiger toy, ate dinner and breakfast. He even did some protective barking when the neighbor's dog came into the yard. Thanks again for putting us together. We'll be in touch!

Rita

Griffin (fka Navel)
June 26, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Griffin (fka Navel) is the perfect little kitten for this household! He is very active and playful with me, then takes naps on my boyfriend's lap while he is on the computer. He made himself right at home from day 1 and loves his new home. He even snuggles in bed with us at night, sometimes squeezing in between us! He wakes me up sometimes jumping on the bed so we will play with him, but it's so cute I don't even mind! He has certainly found a forever home here, and I am thankful I had the opportunity to adopt him.

Missy
June 24, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Missy is doing very well. She know weighs 30lbs. She loves to play tag and hide and seek. She hids we seek then we hide and she seeks. She really loves her new home and being with all the people. She also loves to ride in the car. We try not to leave her behind unless we have to, like when we go to work. We have been working on out commands and manners. She is very smart and picks up real quick. Will keep you updated and send more pics through the summer.

Jenny (fka Matilda)
June 16, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Just an update on Matilda a. k. a. Jenny! She is doing wonderfully and we love her to pieces! She is adjusting to her new home quite well and at her own pace. She loves being brushed and petted and gets lots of it. She isn't quite as thrilled with my granddaughter who is two yrs old, but she is slowly getting used to the sounds. She bravely ventures into the 2 year old's zone a bit more every day although she will not let the poor kid near her! All in all we're doing great, a purrfect fit. I didn't think I would find another cat I'd love so much after my cat of 17 years passed away on Good Friday, but truth is, I saw many wonderful cats that day and I had a hard time choosing! Thank you all so much for the terrific job you're doing and thanks for bringing Jenny and I together!

Ruffles
June 15, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Ruffles is doing wonderful here at our home! It has been such a great few weeks and have had no issues at all. Ruffles loves to be held, cuddled, pet and played with. He gets a lot of attention from our family, especially the kids, and is so laid back about it all. The kids get right out of bed in the morning, come downstairs and sit with Ruffles; they give hugs and kisses and take turns holding him. And that is the last thing they do before bed at night-give him hugs and kisses good night as well. And believe me, he gets tons of attention during the day as well. It has amazed me how he just goes with the flow of two children (6 and 9) constantly wanting to hold him and play with him. He loves it all, it would seem! And we love him very much. We made the right decision adopting him from you - without a doubt! I just can't say enough good things about the entire experience. He fits right in our family and we just can't imagine him not being here with us. I am attaching a picture for you and please feel free to post on your "Happy Endings" website. Thank you for everything, espcially Ruffles! Sincerely,

Kristin P.

Mickeydoo and Smokadoo
June 14, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Just a short note to keep you abreast of the latest adventures of your former "senior residents", Mickeydoo and Smokadoo. They both have taken to their new home like fish to water, as you can probably see from their attached photos. Lots of playing, lots of purring, lots of eating, lots of sleeping, a little bit of mischief, and lots of LOVE from these wonderful girls. Thanks bunches for everything Second Chance has done for them and for us in helping to shape another happy ending! Best,

Jonathan & Debbie K.

Hi Second Chance,
Daisey (FKA Brooke) is great. She has learned dog doors, steps, yard. She loves to run around in the yard. Lots of sniffing, tugging at things, just seems happy. Loves treats, but is still getting familar with my other rougher guys. I am so glad she came to live with us.

Donna

A Note from Second Chance:

It is with great pleasure and joy that we inform of you, our wonderful “Animal Loving Friends and Supporters”, that Brooke has found her forever home. She will be spending her days in the loving care of one of Second Chances’ long time friends, advocate, adopter and Supporter. Brooke’s time will be shared with several other “Doggie Friends” on acres of fully fenced in land, with a doggie door to allow her to play outside when she so chooses or rest on her doggie bed in the house along with her new brothers and sisters. We are all so happy for her and we thank her new Mom for giving her this chance at such a wonderful life.

We also want to express our deepest and most sincere thanks to all of you, who through your generous donations have made this Happy Ending for Brooke possible. Even in the midst of all the economic problems that face all of us, you unselfishly stepped up to assist Brooke. She will be forever indebted to you for your kindness!!! Without you, Second Chance would not be able to do this work, helping our animal friends who cannot help themselves. It is only through your continuing generosity and love of the animals that we are able to rescue, rehabilitate and place loving animals like Brooke. We also want to thank Brooke’s foster mom and family, who took Brooke into their home and nursed her back to health. Without the dedication of you and all of our loving foster homes this would never be possible. There will be a very long line waiting at “Rainbow Bridge” to thank all of you for your efforts!!!

June 6, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Blake is doing well. He is a big love bug! We have found some things we need to work on with him, but he is so worth it! We always say how lucky we are to have found him when we did! Thanks to all of you at the shelter for the work you do!

Baby
June 5, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
I've been in my new home for 3 weeks now, finding all the best places to take a nap, or simply watch what's going on. I miss you all, and hope all my kitty friends are finding new homes too. Thank you for taking such good care of me while I was at the shelter. Love,

Baby

Onyx
June 4, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Thanks for writing! We have been meaning to give you an update on Onyx for quite some time. Our daughter, Peninah (9 years old), wrote the following: Onyx is adjusting well and is doing great! He goes into his crate willingly, doesn't make accidents, and doesn't jump as high as he used to. He still is very strong and pulls very hard on his leash but is still getting better every day! He is really good at fetching and giving up the ball and doesn't leave the park like he used to. We took Onyx swimming at a small pond and boy, should you see him swim! He is a fish! We also think Onyx is part horse (he jumped the tennis net!), part jackrabbit (he's as fast as one!), part fish (he swims like one!), part bat (when he goes on his back his ears flop back and he looks like a bat!)...and part crazy (because he is!) As we always say, "Onyx is the dog for us!" We're attaching some pictures from a recent weekend in Vermont. Enjoy! Thanks, Second Chance!

Renee, Stephen, Peninah & Saul

Andy
June 2, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Andy is doing very well. As you might know Andy has a phobia about strangers. We have been working with him to overcome this. We had a private dog training session who gave us some good tips to help him. Andy was already pretty well trained from Becker College so all we have been doing is having him walk in places where we meet more people. He absolutely LOVED walking through the forest in back of our house then we go over to the cranberry bogs and walk around them but there also weren't any people to bother him. He gets along with our cat very well. My husband absolutely loves him and Andy is now his friend too. He takes him for his morning walk and I have the evening walk after which we go in our large fenced in garden. Andy like to be free and wander among the raised beds. It's funny though that I haven't seen any groundhogs since Andy arrived. Andy also has more family with our two daughters and their husbands. He greets them all at the door when they come in after he has determined that they are not strangers. If he sees a stranger he goes to his "safe place" in our bedroom. It's only been one month so I am really happy with his progress. The first week Joe was really great and gave us some good advice to help him with the cats. (He wanted to play with them). Thank you so much for asking about Andy. Second Chance has been a great organization to adopt from. I am now reccomending you to other people. It is even worth the drive from Dartmouth. Always,

Val

Judy
June 2, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Judy is doing well and as you can see has made herself right at home. She is one of the most challenging dogs I have ever met but she is well worth the effort. It is nice to see her be a puppy because I doubt she ever had that chance. She is a wonderful dog that has much love to share. I will send better pictures in the near future.

Peg

Maggie
June 1, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
We think Maggie is doing really well. She gets along great with her brother & sister dogs, they are a good little pack. She was very shy & kindof fearful at first, but we are taking her hiking & walking a lot & for rides in the car so her confidence can build with new things. She is also going to obedience training, and is very smart & learning quickly. She doesn't like being around other dogs besides her little pack, so we also thought the training was important for socialization. She is very good in the house, with no really bad habits. Basically, we are giving her a lot of exercise, structure & finally love and I think it is working. We are committed to making her even more confident (but not top dog---that is us!). She is eating well, had her first bath a while ago, and is enjoying some new toys. We are trying to get a picture of the 3 of them, but haven't had a good opportunity yet. We'd like to send it to your Happy Endings website. We're convinced she's a right fit here, and are committed to making the fit even better with some effort. Thanks for checking, and we hope to send a picture soon. Tell everyone we said thanks and they can feel confident she is doing well! Best regards,

Marlene & Craig L.

Sampson and Quagmire
June 1, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Good evening. The boys have settled in nicely here. As I write this they are wrestling with each other on the couch. They have taken beautifully to their crates for sleeping and they love being able to run in the yard thanks to the wireless fence we installed for them. Sampson has really taken to the on leash walks I take them on in the woods behind the house but Q isn't so sure about them yet. I'm sure he'll come around. As a treat we sometimes let them go next door to my in laws and let them bark at the cows. They love it and the cows don't seem to care one way or the other so everyone's happy. They are both active loving puppies and we couldn't be happier to have them in our family. Both my daughters are extremely fond of them and we're thrilled with the patience they show for my 1 year old's curiousity. That's about it I guess. We're so glad to have them and they give us something new to laugh at every day. I'll send along some pictures as soon as I can get them to sit still for a minute. Thanks for checking in.

Chad

Prince (fka Brutus)
June 1, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
We cannot believe how much we all have fallen in love with Prince (aka. Brutus). He has become quite accustomed to in-house living and enjoys his favorite places on the couch, reading good night books to the girls and tucking them in at night as well as becoming best friends with our cat Buttercup (also adopted from second chance ~3.5 years ago). Prince has definitely completed our little family. He waits outside with me as our 6 year old Ava gets off the bus from school. As soon as we get the pictures downloaded to our computer from our digital camera I will send the best along. My best to you both.

Stella

Kacey (fka Bonsai)
June 1, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
We have changed Bonsai name to Kacey and she seems happy with it. She loves her back yard, sometimes it's hard to bring her for a walk because she just wants to run the back yard. Jim brings her for a 1 mile jog every day she enjoys it as well as the neighbors who feel she has a graceful pace. We are very happy with her as well as our friends and family. Attached are pictures of her I hope you will enjoy. Thanks for asking,

The Vermette Family

Champ (fka Rizzo)
June 1, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
We have renamed Rizzo, and his new name is Champ. He has been spoiled rotten lately. He loves to play especially in water. He has a new best friend, my daughters dog Daisy. He has been very busy lately getting my daughter into shape running, jumping on the trampoline and swimming at the beach, along with a few games of fetch. He has been helping my wife in the gardens and has also enjoyed a little fishing in our koi pond. Attached is a picture of Champ and Daisy.

Boo
June 1, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
We adopted Boo in November 2008. My daughter really wanted a cat, and Boo was the perfect choice. She's been a great addition to the family. She and our dog Rusty get along fine. We're very happy you gave us a new family member. Enclosed is a picture from the day we got her, and another more recent photo where she's cuddling in my daughters lap.

Mickey
May 31, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
I wanted to let you know that after three months Mickey is starting to relax. She will jump in and out of the car now and even loves going for drives. We went to the drive in last weekend and she came with us, slept in the back the whole time, and was fine! She has been getting better with men. Now, new men are easier to meet for her although she still has her moments, however, there are ones that are still problematic, but much much less so. Thank you for calling and talking me through the hard times. Hope all is well at the shelter. Thank you again for letting me adopt Mickey and letting her join our home.

Jen

Bailey (fka Annie)
May 31, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Bailey formally known as Annie is doing great. She is just over a year old and has adjusted to her new home wonderfully. She loves playing with other animals and people young and old. Bailey has been with us for just over two months. Unfortunately, she had a bit of a rough start. Once we got her home we noticed that she was limping. We had x-rays done and found that some kind of trauma had occurred when she was younger. Her left rear leg was smashed into her hip causing her pain and the inability to use that leg properly. Bailey received a Femoral Head Surgery at Tufts on April 30, 2009. We are happy to report that the surgery has been a success so far. We have started physical therapy and she is now using and bearing weight on that leg. We still have a ways to go, but Bailey is a determined little dog. She is always wagging her tail and giving kisses. My husband and I are so happy that Bailey is in our lives. We can't imagine our lives without her. Thank you Second Chance.

Hi Second Chance,
Sweet Pea, now "Avery"... is doing just wonderfully. I love that boy so much!!! He has lost a little bit of weight, but has a way to go to get back into shape. He lets me pick him up and give him kisses now..he was wearing of me doing that at first. He is now very vocal..he has a very sweet purr meow that he uses to greet me. We feel so lucky to have him in our lives. Thank you Second Chance!!

(fka Pistachio and Ribbon)
May 24, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Thank you for checking up on the kittens. They are doing great and have adjusted to their new home just fine. They love to play and are very loving towards us. They have brought great joy to us and we love having them around us. They are growing so fast, already roaming around he house and going up and down stairs no problem. They found the kitty litter box no problem and have been eating and drinking alot hehe. They love all their toys and we are so happy that we were able to take them home. We also renamed them George cause he's so curious and Ribbon we named Alia because she likes to box! Thank you so much!

Archie (fka Rascal)
May 24, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Rascal's doing wonderfully! He's no longer "Rascal," though. We changed his name to "Archie" when we adopted him. Archie is a super good boy. We have two cats that he has become good friends with. They all take turns chasing each other around the house. We've been successful with house training Archie and we've taught him some tricks. He is a cuddly, cuddly boy. He sleeps with us in our bed...and I do mean IN the bed. He's like a little, burrowing mole! He slithers his little body under the covers and sleeps completely covered up! It bothered me at first because I wasn't sure if he could breathe o.k. under all of the heavy blankets, but I guess he does fine! When it isn't bedtime, he's happy to burrow under a blanket on the couch, instead. Now that the weather's warmer (he HATES the cold), we're spending a lot of time out in the sun. We need to be careful, though, because he can get sunburned! So, we've essentially had a terrific adoption experience! I attached a few pictures of Archie for you to see. Thanks for checking in!

May 24, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
It has been about 2 months since we have had Samuel Adams (fka Jenny, haha). We just love him! Every day is an adventure. He makes us laugh and is so much fun. He loves to play fetch, he learned really quickly how to "drop it" and then go fetch it again. He loves to go on his daily walks. He especially enjoys evenings when mom or dad will sit on the living room floor with him before he goes to bed. He crate and house trained really quickly. He also learned quickly that Willie and Molly (2 cats) are in charge and really don't want to play with him, even thou he keeps trying. He isn’t jumping up as much now and we are still working on his mouthing, but he is learning. We cannot thank Joe enough for finding Sam for us, we can't imagine life without him. We applaud all the volunteers at Second Chance for the wonderful work you do. Thanks so much.

Haven
May 22, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Haven is doing great. We love her and so does the rest of our family. We took her to PA to visit our son and she is a good traveler and did real well. She adjusted to us so well it was like she lived her her whole time. We got a trainer for her and she is learning new commands, and has been to the vets many times for shots and boosters. She loves her walks and loves to be outside . is learning to play and has a new dog house and will have a fence put up so she can run and play on the grass. the whole back yard is hers.

Lily
May 22, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Lily is doing very well. We just recently "graduated" from Puppy Kindergarten. Lily especially loved the agility course. She has learned all of the basic commands - sit, down, wait, leave it, fetch, drop it. We have also taught her to rollover. Most importantly, she is great on a leash. She is a very social dog and loves walking the kids to and from school. Initially the thought was that Lily would be a fairly large dog. However, after a recent consultation with our vet the thought is that she will be around 30 lbs. At almost 5 months she is 16 lbs. Of course bringing a new dog into a home, and a puppy at that, is very time consuming. We are walking her around 5 times each day which has been great for weight loss! But all in all feel that everyoe has settled into our family routine. We are so thankful for Second Chance and all that you do for the animals. The kids keep asking to go visit because they miss seeing the new dogs. We've attached some recent photos. Thank you again.

Scout
May 20, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
We just wanted to thank you for choosing our family to take Scout home! He has adjusted well to his new home and we adore him!!! He has brought so much joy to us already in the short time we've had him. He's still in the puppy stages, so we've been hiding our shoes. He has lots of energy and keeps us busy, but we couldn't be happier with our new family member. I will send a picture soon, if I can get my camera to work for me. Thank you again!

Vienna
May 20, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
This is just a little update....still not what I want to have written as my "happy tales" story! So I've officially had Vienna for one week today and everything is going well. She settled in very quickly, and is comfortable in the house. Actually as I write this she is sitting on my lap, which is making it hard to type! She sleeps on my bed every night with me, and it's a bit of a project getting her and Sunshine both comfortable so they don't get jealous of each other, but it works. The two cats get along well for the most part. Vienna is a bit more playful than Sunshine and a lot of times she runs and jumps at her wanting to play....Sunshine usually gives her two chances, two dirty looks & a growl, then if she does it still....she gets swat. But it all works out. And soon, she may even take Sunshine's hints to back off! Besides that though they don't fight. It's generally only when Vienna wants to be playful with Sunshine, and Sunshine doesn't like to be a toy. So I think that's all. She's great, very loving, cuddly, and sweet. And absolutely adorable. Her face is just so cute! Plus her personality is HUGE....she is definitely her own little kitty with her own ways of doing things. That's all for now,

Loriann

Scrappy
May 18, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
It's been a year since Scrappy joined our family. He is doing great. It took a few weeks for he and his feline sister to get acquainted, but now they get along wonderfully. The cat has gotten used to his sniffing inspections and big licks. Our 4 year old daughter just loves "her puppy." She's happy to shower him with treats and attention. Scrappy enjoys our daily walks and loves playing ball, but I think what he likes best is just curling up in your lap if you let him. He's a bit bigger than your typical lap dog, but such a snuggler. Early on he was a bit of a chewer and a digger, but he seems to have given up those habits (for the most part). Scrappy has been a wonderful addition to our family. Thanks so much for your help bringing Scrappy into our family!

Sandy
May 15, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Well its been almost a month since Sandy became a part of my family, and we both couldn't be happier! She has completely come out of her shell. Sandy is such a playful kitten; she will run from one end of the apartment to the other, enjoys playing with the cat toys we bought her, and loves to attack the table and chair legs. : ) When she needs a break she loves to snuggle up on my lap and get all the attention she can. She has such a loud purr! She's also a great alarm clock. Every morning she jumps on the bed and walks all over us until we wake up...and if we don't she finds a comfortable spot (often on top of me) and waits for us to notice her. She is a happy, healthy, loving cat and I am so thankful to you for bringing us together. I will continue to keep you updated!

London

London and Sunday
May 15, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
It's London, I am settling in at my new home. I was scared at first and stayed in my pen for the first couple of days. I have a big brother and his name is Sunday. He is black and white and he was a little jealous of me at first but we get along great now. We chase each other around the house and try to catch each other, it is so much fun. Sometimes we just lay in the window together napping or looking outside. Our Dads built us a great big pen outside, so we can go outside together and we can watch the birds and squirrels and play all day. There are so many birds I get dizzy trying to watch them all fly and dart about the trees. Don and Bill (my new Dads) even takes us for walks around the yard. I am not sure if I like that harness and leash yet but I am trying to learn. I have met a couple of their dogs, but I am very weary of them. I watch them when they are outside playing or on the other side of the gate in the house. Sunday doesn't seem bothered by them, but they make me nervous so I am content to just watch them right now. My two favorite things to do is, eat and climb. Love, London

We really enjoy London and glad he is part of our lives. Sunday has a great little brother to play with and keep him company during the day. He is a little eating machine but we don't know where he puts it all. He thinks it is great fun to chase Sunday all around the house at 3:00 AM. We really love him, our new little baby. Sincerely,

Don and Bill H.

Cashew (fka Chance)
May 14, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
We have been afraid to email you telling you how good Cashew has been... because every time the thought crosses our minds... he pees in the crate. It was like he knew.... but it's been a week now... no pee or poop in the house! It's brilliant! He's such a good boy in general and now that this piece seems to be reaching a conclusion he is getting even better. We've stopped crating him at night and, instead, keeping him in the room with us. That seems to work well in combination with placing cardboard around his crate and crating him only when we leave the house. When he finally stops wiggling, he helps make a good cuddle puddle. :-) Thank you again for bringing this sweet boy into our lives. He and Rocco are wonderful brothers. I attached a cute picture of the 2 of them. Talk to you soon!

House and 13
(fka Sydney and Swan)
May 10, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Everything is going great! House (fka Sydney) and 13 (fka Swan) are the best of friends have settled in perfectly. Our current cat Claire even plays with them now too - running around the house chasing each other. Lots of new toys and they love the watching the birds and chipmunks from the window seats! They are both very very friendly and wake us up normally about 6am looking for attention. When they want to be pet or played with you know about it and have no choice! but hey can spend hours playing by themselves or with each other. Also everyone thinks they are beautiful cats. We are so pleased that we came to Second Chance. No only as we got 2 wonderful cats but also as everyone there has been fantastic. It is obvious that you take great pride and care in looking after the animals and the adoption process and the packet (with all the information and coupons) was very professional and thorough and everything reflected that. We are recommending the shelter to everyone we know and will do what we can to help. Riley has done some work with the shelter with Burgess school and now really wants to get involved. Thanks again, for everything.

Mischief
May 7, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
It's hard to believe Mischief (PKA Ariel) has been with our family for a year. She is a patient fun loving cat. We all love playing fetch and watching her leap to catch hair elastics (her favorite toy). She has enjoyed many tea parties and exciting games with Dolan, Kaleigh and Abby. Thank you for helping Mischief join our family.

Cracker
May 6, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
My family and I just wanted to give you a quick update on Cracker. We adopted Cracker on 4/24/09 from you and she is turning out to be the perfect dog in our life. Each of us have fallen in love with her adorable Labra/doodle face. The family member who seems to love her the most is Buddy our 6 year old lab/chow mix who was also adopted from Second Chance. We are so grateful to have found a friend for Buddy. Cracker is extremely loving and gets along well with our cat and rabbit as well. Her favorite things to do are rough housing with Buddy and laying on our laps. Of course she is not a lap dog but she does not seem to care and we don't mind. We would like to thank you for providing such an amazing facility and for helping so many animals and of course a special thank you for bringing Crackers and Buddy into our lives. Sincerely,

The McDuffies - Beth, Brian, Joshua, Mary, and Anna

Wally
May 6, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Just checking in to let you know Wally is doing well. He has started to really come out of his shell and show his sweet personality. He was following me around the house this morning. He still gets a little nervous about any people coming in that he doesn't know, but he is definitely adjusting. We had a little set back last week when he went for his vet check up and shots. He was very good at the vet but the trip in the truck made him pretty nervous. Maybe he was afraid he would be changing homes again (we know that won't happen!) Anyway, he has definitely settled in! I'll try to get some better outdoor pictures when he and my camera cooperate!

Sophie (fka Samantha)
May 4, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Good morning! I thought you would enjoy seeing some recent pictures of Sophie. She is doing quite well and we are very much enjoying her! She "graduated" from her training class. I think she misses the play time with the dogs, but we do play with a neighbor's dog often, and she enjoys that as well. Petco is offering a Canine Good citizen class in late May that we are thinking of taking as well. She is not still completely over nipping at my ankles or play biting, but it is getting better. She does still like to get into things that she shouldn't - her favorites being shoes, specifically slippers, and remotes! She has oddly been waking up early - like 3:30 or 4:00 AM and is ready to go! I don't know if it's that it's getting lighter earlier (although the sun isn't up that early!) or just what. I do know I am very much not ready to go at 4 AM! 5:15 is early enough! We are still running every morning and playing a lot at night. She doesn't see the merit in taking a day off, so our off days are walks and not runs. She loves fetch! We had our first trip to Trout Brook and walked one of the trails. She wasn't so certain about the wooden bridges, but a little coaxing on the first one and she was fine on all the others. She still isn't sure about water either. We stopped at the pond on our way in and out, and she lapped at the water, but didn't have any interest in going in. I'm sure that once she figures it out, we won't be able to keep her out of the water, so maybe we should enjoy the non-soaked dog now! Hope you enjoyed the pictures and are doing well!

Nico and Jasmine
May 2, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
Things are going great with Jasmine and Nico. We have fallen in love with them! For the first couple of weeks they were very cautious but we could tell that they were happy to be out of the cage. As time has gone on, their personalities are coming out more and more. They now "hang out" with us all the time. Jasmine definitely wears "the pants" in the family and camps out most of the time under the coffee table in the family room where we spend most of our time. She loves to talk and follows us around being bossy and demanding her food when dinner time comes. She also LOVES her fishing pole with her catnip filled fish and bats it around after dinner time and into the evening. Nico is our fat boy and is a lot more laid back. He is incredibly affectionate and loves being brushed. As time has gone on he is also loving to join in on the fishing pole game. Having the cats has brought us great joy already and it is wonderful to come home to them after a hard day at work. Thank you so much for taking good care of them and for allowing us the opportunity to adopt them both. We are very grateful. Keep up the great work!

Maggie (fka Megan)
May 1, 2009
Hi Second Chance,
So it has been a week since we brought Maggie home-she is just as wonderful now as she was the very first time we met her! She has fit in very well with all of us in the house, and even both kids have stepped up and have been responsible about walking, and brushing, and loving her. She is very much a couch potato when we are all watching tv, but she minds very well and will be just as happy on the floor as she is on the couch. She’s eating well, and I have been diligent about combing and brushing, and now her coat is shiny and healthy looking, and very soft. I have spoiled her slightly in that I add broth to her dry food, mainly because she would take the kernels and hide them in her bedding or drop them on the floor in different rooms, and I am afraid that we’ll have bugs if that continues. So, adding a bit of broth has done the trick, as she now will eat right away. We added some hard chew toys and a kong that we can fill with peanut butter or treats, and that seems fairly new to her also, but she is learning. The sit and stay command is coming along, and occasionally we can drop the leash and she will not move, and that is amazing! Other than getting her accustomed to the crate, all is well, we are very happy to have her, and she has also given us all plenty of love as well. We made a great match!
